The 34th IGBO Annual Conference and Tournament was held in mid-May in Tucson, Arizona. IGBO thanks the entire Tucson host committee for their hospitality and execution of the event.
During the conference on Wednesday and Thursday, the Board of Directors met to take care of the business side of IGBO. Board members and committee chairs delivered reports including what they have been working on. The Board approved 5 changes to Policies and Procedures, which will be available in the IGBO Library once published.
The IGBO Board and the Marketing, Sponsorship and Research committee selected and contracted Connections Housing to be our Official Hotel Negotiator – a company who will do the work on IGBO’s behalf to identify, contract and manage the arduous tasks related to Host Hotels for our Annual and Mid-Year conferences. This benefit can be extended to Member Tournaments who may be in need of help with their tournament hotel needs.
On Friday, the General Membership Meeting convened. Storm Bowling Products presented a sponsorship check to IGBO at the meeting. In addition to being present and active throughout the weekend, Storm entered a team into our tournament that included Storm staffer and PWBA and WIBC Hall of Famer, Tish Johnson.
A committee from Albuquerque, New Mexico presented a bid to host IGBO Annual Conference and Tournament in May 2016. The General Membership accepted the bid from Albuquerque, so IGBO will be going to New Mexico in 2016. The city of Sydney, Australia submitted their Letter of Intent to host IGBO’s Mid-Year conference in November 2016.
Elections were held for the following positions, Vice President, Secretary, and Regional Director positions from Regions 6,7,8,10,12. The results are as follows: Vice-President Mark Macbain, Secretary Bill Roman, Region 6 Director Steve Martinez, Region 7 Director Paul Scheib and Region 10 Director Joey LeBlanc. Regions 8 and 12 were unable to complete elections, so IGBO President McDaniel will appoint interim directors until the next conference.
IGBO welcomed 7 leagues, 4 tournaments and 102 associate members into membership. The leagues welcomed were:
- South Sound Gay, Tacoma, Washington,
- Triad Pride Bowlers, Greensboro, North Carolina,
- Game On Bowling Organization, West Sacramento, California,
- The Classics, Winnetka, California,
- Sunset Combo, Fort Worth, Texas,
- Thursday Summer Doubles, Omaha, Nebraska, and
- Thursday Night Out, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The new IGBO Member Tournaments welcomed were:
- Bridgetown Invitational Tournament (BIT), Portland, Oregon,
- Game On Bowling Org. Tournament (GO-BOT), West Sacramento, California,
- HUGS, Lakewood, California, and
- Prairie PLOW Tournament, Wichita, Kansas.
At the banquet it was announced that the Fellowship Award recipients for 2014 were Ray Nastasi from Dallas, Texas and Ron Sperry from San Diego, California. Congrats to both of these very deserving winners. As the banquet concluded, the flag was passed to Jacksonville, Florida, hosts of the next IGBO Mid-Year Conference and Tournament in November 2014.Social tagging: conference recap
